DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (May 29, 2015) – On May 27, the Halifax Health Nurses Week Committee made donations to the Florida Chapter of The TEARS Foundation and the Lions Club of Daytona Beach. The donations were made possible due to fundraising activities spearheaded by the committee during National Nurses Week, which was observed in communities throughout the U.S. on May 6-12.
“We are proud to be able to make donations to these very deserving organizations. The support from our co-workers helped make these donations possible,” says Halifax Health Oncology Nurse Manager and member of the Halifax Health Nurses Week Committee Dan Elko, RN, BSN, OCN.
As a result of the committee’s fundraising efforts, Halifax Health nurses raised $22,000 to support nursing scholarships, Halifax Health’s Employee Emergency Relief Fund and local charities.
This year, the Florida Chapter of the TEARS Foundation was selected to receive a $5,000 donation from the committee. This local non-profit organization helps bereaved parents honor the life of their child by assisting them with financial expenses for funeral arrangements.
In addition, the committee donated over 100 pairs of eyeglasses collected by nursing staff to the Lions Club of Daytona Beach in support of the organization’s Lions Recycle for Sight Program. The Recycle for Sight Program distributes recycled eyeglasses to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact. The Halifax Health Nurses Week Committee presents donation to the Florida Chapter of The TEARS Foundation.
