Halifax Health – Hospice Names New Executive Director

Mary Jo Allen, RN, MSN, MBA has been named the new executive director of Halifax Health – Hospice, Volusia and Flagler counties’ largest hospice care provider.  Allen replaces the not-for-profit organization’s former executive, Fran Davis, who retired from the position on September 1.

“For more than 15 years, Mary Jo has been an advocate for Florida’s elderly population.  She is passionate about delivering healthcare to our communities and is looking forward to continuing the extraordinary work of Halifax Health – Hospice to provide expert and compassionate care to our patients and their families,” says Eric Peburn, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Halifax Health.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, Allen also holds master’s degrees in nursing and business administration from the University of Phoenix.

In 2011, she founded Home Health Care of Florida, a Medicare Certified Home Care agency serving Central and North Florida.  Under her vision and leadership, the organization experienced unprecedented growth while maintaining excellent clinical care, outcomes and customer satisfaction.  Prior to founding Home Health Care of Florida, Allen served as the area operations/rehabilitation director for Gentiva Health Services.

Since 1979, Halifax Health – Hospice has been a respected leader in providing end-of-life-care with extraordinary comfort and compassion.  Halifax Health – Hospice cares for patients and families through a uniquely specialized team of registered nurses, licensed social workers, spiritual care counselors, hospice aides, complementary therapists and more than 600 volunteers who are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  In addition, Halifax Health – Hospice offers an array of services and programs including support groups, children’s grief centers and a traumatic loss program.
