Daytona Beach – February 4, 2021- Today the Team Members of the Medical Center of Deltona celebrate the organization’s first birthday.  Jeff Feasel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Halifax Health, Dr Margaret Crossman, MD and Chief Medical Officer for Halifax Health and Robert Feezor MD UF Health and Chief of Staff greeted the Team Members with a small recognition ceremony and visited all the departments to share their thanks for the work by all of the Team Members during what has been a very different year.  “2020 was definitely different than what we planned for as we built Deltona’s hospital in west Volusia County.  If given the choice, we would have liked to have avoided opening this state of the art medical facility during the 21st century pandemic, but I am pleased to say our staff has met the challenge and performed admirably.  The amount of care our Team Members have provided is truly impressive,” according to Feasel.

“In the first year, our emergency department saw over 12,000 patients, we performed almost 400 surgeries, admitted over 1,000 patients and now have 256 physicians on the medical staff.  All this is a testament to the superior partnership that UF Health and Halifax Health have created based on the needs of the community.  I want to thank the community for trusting their care to our highly trained staff.” Feezor said.

The history of the Medical Center of Deltona started over eight years ago when the city of Deltona approached Halifax Health about providing a hospital and a choice in care for its residents.  Based on the “ask” and desire, Halifax Health and UF Health delivered a world class hospital designed to grow as residents’ needs grow.

Already, the partnership has built and opened The Annex which houses primary care, pediatric care, UF Health specialists’ offices, and Halifax Health I Brooks Rehabilitation for adults and pediatric patients.  On the horizon is a Breast Center of Excellence, continued growth in the surgery department and a general increase in services provided.
