Daytona Beach, FL – The 97th South Atlantic Women’s Amateur Championship, also known as the SALLY, dates back to 1926 and continues to host players from all over the world. The weeklong event held in January is filled with great golf and was once again a success, raising $36,500 for the Halifax Health Chuck and Miki Grant Cancer Center for Hope and the Halifax Health Center for Women and Infant Health. The funds will be used to support new oncology treatment technology and care for over 2,000 new moms and infants this year. In golf action Gianna Clemente, the nation’s top-ranked junior, shot a final round 75 to finish with an even-par 288, one stroke better than Morgan Ketchum, a freshman at Virginia Tech. Clemente, who shot 69 Friday to carry a two-stroke margin into Saturday’s final, secured the win by tapping in for par on the 18th and a one shot victory.
The event featured A Taste of Oceanside Country Club and Friends, a culinary event featuring some of the finest restaurants in the area, plus the five day tournament and member event. The participating restaurants included Rosevilla, 31 Supper Club, Grind, Oceanside Country Club, SoNapa, Oil and Vinegar, Chicken Salad Chick, Huey Magoo’s, Billy’s Taproom, and Krispy Kreme.
Chuck Grant, Chairman of the Sally Committee and local business leader, expressed his gratitude for the community’s support, saying, “The Sally, the oldest woman’s amateur golf tournament held at the same golf course in the world, involves many sponsors, club members and friends to provide the opportunity for one amateur female golfer to join a prestigious list of Champions many who have gone on to professional golf careers. The Champion also wins a playing position in an Epson Series professional tournament. It takes many people to put this event on and I am extremely proud that we host the tournament each year.”
Halifax Health Foundation Executive Director, Joe Petrock, also expressed his gratitude for the support, saying, “Halifax Health is thankful for the Ormond Beach community’s overwhelming support for cancer and child care among other service lines throughout our 95 year history.”
The Sally Golf Tournament and A Taste of Oceanside Country Club and Friends have become annual traditions in Ormond Beach, bringing together golf enthusiasts and food lovers to support important causes in the community. Next year’s tournament is scheduled the first week of January. (January 2-6) The 2024 Taste of Oceanside and Friends is slated for October 8, 2024.
