Lifestyle

Home to the headquarters of NASCAR, the International Speedway Corporation, and the LPGA, Daytona Beach is a favored getaway for weather chasers and vacationers. World-famous events such as Speedweeks, Bike Week, and Biketoberfest draw huge crowds of fans and tourists every year. Although the Daytona 500 is no longer held on the sand, visitors are still permitted to drive directly onto “the World’s Most Famous Beach,” making it appealing and convenient for families. For year-round residents there are excellent restaurants, shopping centers, movie theaters, and museums.

All 23 miles of beach in Volusia County are surfer-friendly, but locals know the best waves are found at Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach. Driving is permitted on Daytona Beach from sunrise to sunset, except during sea-turtle nesting season, when the beach is closed to traffic to permit these endangered sea creatures to lay their eggs and safely return to the water.

Arts

Daytona Beach boasts a rich history showcased by places like the Halifax Historical Museum and the Museum of Arts and Sciences. It also has a strong tradition of celebrating fine and performing arts with events throughout the year, such as the Halifax Art Festival, Daytona Winterfest, Florida International Festival (featuring the London Symphony Orchestra), and the Summer Concert Series at the oceanfront Bandshell.

Schools

Volusia County schools are rated among the best in the state.
