Alvaro Alvarez-Farinetti, M.D. Joins Halifax Health – Center for Oncology

Alvaro Alvarez-Farinetti, M.D., a radiation oncologist with more than 18 years of experience, has joined Halifax Health – Center for Oncology.

A board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti is a graduate of Barry University in Miami and received his medical degree from the Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic.  He completed his internship at PonceUniversityHospital in Puerto Rico and residency in radiation oncology at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City where he served as chief resident.

Following completion of his residency, Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti remained at the University of Kansas for four years as an assistant professor and as program director of the residency training program.

As a faculty member, he initiated a study of radiotherapy with a combined EGFR- and VEGF-inhibitor for the re-treatment of recurrent head and neck cancers and directed the Total Body Irradiation program.  Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti also served on a number of university committees, including the Research Review Board, the Medical Faculty Council, the medical school student admission board, and the accreditation committee for the American College of Surgeons.

In addition, he has received extensive training in prostate, breast, and gynecologic brachytherapy, vascular brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery and IMRT.

Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology, the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, past member of the Children’s Oncology Group, and the Southwest Oncology Group.
