DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (February 27, 2019) – Halifax Health recently honored two registered nurses – Erin Bridger and Amber McLaughlin – as winners of the community health system’s quarterly DAISY Award recognizing extraordinary nurses.
An Ormond Beach resident, Erin Bridger has been a Halifax Health employee for two years. She is a graduate of Daytona State College and a registered nurse in the Halifax Health – Center for Orthopedics.
The patient’s family that nominated Bridger for the DAISY Award wanted her to receive recognition for the care she provided their daughter who sustained serious injuries in a car accident. The patient’s mother wrote, “I was touched by how attentive, caring and tender she was with our daughter who, besides many broken bones, had a concussion, which caused her anxiety and confusion. Erin made sure that her every need was met as well as that she bolstered her self-esteem while giving her hope of total recovery.”
Bridger says she enjoys nursing because it allows her to make a difference. “I enjoy having the ability to make a difference in someone’s life. I take care of people on the worst days of their lives and I’m blessed to have a positive impact on them,” she explains.
Port Orange resident Amber McLaughlin has worked at Halifax Health for four years and is also a registered nurse in the Halifax Health – Center for Orthopedics. She is a graduate of Daytona State College and Western Governors University.
When asked why she enjoys nursing, McLaughlin says simply, “I enjoy helping people.”
The patient’s mother who nominated McLaughlin for this recognition was touched by the compassionate care McLaughlin provided her daughter. “The compassion and kindness that Amber and her aide showed her when they helped her get out of bed for the first time was heartwarming.”
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. A DAISY Award Partner, Halifax Health encourages patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and employees to nominate a nurse for this quarterly honor.
