Celebrate the Stars recognizes those individuals within the entire Brooks Rehabilitation system of care who have been nominated by their peers for going above and beyond in living the company values. They receive an invitation at the annual leadership retreat with a formal dinner escorted by their manager, video “why they are a star”, certificate, gift and over night stay.

Jennifer Defrin, Halifax Health | Brooks Rehabilitation – Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation Charge Nurse, was nominated by her peers and received this noteworthy recognition.

Below is the nomination letter submitted by on of her peers.

“Jennifer Defrin works as our 3-11pm charge nurse over the two acute rehabilitation floors at Brooks Halifax in Daytona Beach, Florida. Jennifer’s role as interim charge nurse is often that of the unsung hero. She is the leader behind the scenes who ensures that patient care occurs seamlessly. We can rely on Jennifer to help us to provide the best care possible for our patients and their families. As a staff nurse, I know my evening will be better when Jennifer is in charge. When considering Brooks’ values, Jennifer is truly exceptional in her service, accountability, integrity, and teamwork. Jennifer’s focus is always on our patients. She is expert at solving problems effectively and efficiently and knows how to engage her resources. She communicates well with patients, families, nursing staff, physician staff, and management. She is always willing to do the right thing. The specific act that qualifies Jennifer for a star nomination is her willingness to step into the role of interim charge nurse. Our 3-11pm shift has not had a permanent charge nurse for some time. It is a very demanding position as the 3-11pm shift is quite busy and this job requires the charge nurse to manage two physically separate floors. The temporary solution had been for staff nurses to rotate in and out of the role throughout the week. The lack of continuity was stressful for staff and had the potential to have a negative impact on patient care. By taking on this challenging role, Jennifer has brought stability to our shift. Her leadership on 3-11pm facilitates a more functional and highly effective team. I am proud to have Jennifer as my charge nurse and feel that she embodies our organizational values.”
