(December 13, 2016) – Margaret Crossman, MD has been named the interim chief medical officer for Halifax Health.
Dr. Crossman is a board-certified Family Physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. Her experience includes five years of private practice, including the full spectrum of family medicine with obstetrics. She subsequently joined the faculty at the Halifax Health – Family Medicine Residency Program where she has served as the women’s health coordinator for the last 19 years.
She holds the position of assistant professor of medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine and has spoken nationally on chronic disease management for diabetes and performance improvement initiatives as well as many women’s health-related topics. In addition, she served on the Halifax Health – Center for Women and Infant Health’s three-year patient safety initiative – MORE (Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently) multidisciplinary team – and is a founding member of the Halifax Health Governance Council where she serves as chairman of the Quality Subcommittee.
Over the next year, Dr. Crossman will transition from her current duties with the Halifax Health – Family Medicine Residency Program and is expected to fully assume the responsibilities of chief medical officer in June 2017 from Donald Stoner, MD, who has served in that role for more than 10 years.
A graduate of the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Dr. Crossman completed the Halifax Health – Family Medicine Residency Program in 1993. The Halifax Health – Family Medicine Residency Program has graduated more than 440 physicians, of which, more than 150 are practicing physicians in Volusia and Flagler counties.
Dr. Crossman resides in New Smyrna Beach with her husband Jim and their six children.
