Geis Elected Vice-Chair of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board of Directors

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (February 20, 2018) – Carolyn Geis, M.D., medical director for the Halifax Health|Brooks Rehabilitation Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation, has been elected the vice-chair of the board of directors for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

“This is a tremendous honor for Dr. Geis and Halifax Health|Brooks Rehabilitation.  Her election further elevates the standing of Halifax Health and Brooks Rehabilitation on the national stage and we could not be more proud,” says Astrid Gonzalez-Parrilla, executive director of rehabilitative services for Halifax Health|Brooks Rehabilitation. She continues, “The position of vice-chair is critical in ensuring physicians who practice in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation have the necessary clinical skill set to effectively treat the patients who are under their care.  The election of Dr. Geis to the vice-chairmanship of this prestigious board reflects the confidence that the national certifying board has in her organizational abilities, leadership and ability to continue the mission of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.”

Dr. Geis is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.  A graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in Galveston, she completed her residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.  Her clinical expertise is in neurologic rehabilitation, spasticity management, stroke rehabilitation and brain injury rehabilitation.  Dr. Geis holds subspecialty certification in brain injury medicine.  In 1998, she was named the medical director of Halifax Health’s Center for Neurosciences and the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.  In addition, she serves as an assistant clinical professor for the Florida State University College of Medicine in Daytona Beach.
