Grand Opening Event Takes Place November 16

Halifax Health and the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA will celebrate the grand opening of their first Healthy Living Center at the Ormond Beach Family YMCA, 500 Sterthaus Drive, with a ribbon-cutting event on Monday, November 16 at 4 p.m.

Created through a partnership between Halifax Health and Volusia Flagler Family YMCA, the Healthy Living Center at the Ormond Beach Family YMCA will offer its first lecture – “Talk with a Doc: The Flu and You!” with featured speaker Ana Castoro, M.D., a Halifax Health family medicine physician – from 5:30-6 p.m. following the ribbon-cutting event.     

“We are excited to leave our medical center campus to go out into the communities we serve to offer classes, seminars and health assessments with the goal of improving the health and quality of life of VolusiaCounty residents,” says Halifax Health Chief Medical Officer Don Stoner, M.D.

Throughout the next several months, three additional Healthy Living Centers will open in VolusiaCounty at YMCA locations in DeLand, Deltona and Port Orange.  Open to the entire community, the centers will provide health education and screening opportunities and will be staffed by health and wellness professionals from The YMCA and Halifax Health.

Randolyn Haley, Healthy Living Centers director for the Volusia Flagler YMCA, spearheads this new initiative which will offer an array of educational, evidenced-based programs, covering a multitude of topics applicable to all ages.

“The Volusia Flagler Family YMCA is proud to partner with Halifax Health on this new initiative.  Our hope is that VolusiaCounty residents will find our Healthy Living Centers a relevant and accessible resource that is helpful and applicable to their everyday lives,” Haley says.

Upcoming lectures at the Ormond BeachFamilyYMCAHealthyLivingCenter include:

  • November 17: Social Skills Awareness for Teens and Adolescents.  6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • November 18: Ask the ExpertAre You At Risk for Being Too Sweet? The Scoop on Diabetes.  9-10 a.m.
  • November 19: Ask the ExpertCoping with Holiday Blues.  2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • November 20: Happiest Baby on the Block.  Interactive Class.  $10 for DVD.  10:30 a.m.
  • November 30: What’s New with the Flu: 2015-16. 9-10 a.m.
