Halifax Health is proud to announce its Volunteers of the Month for June and July – Barbara Bray and her dog D’Jango and Joan Frederick.
Barbara Bray and her Labrador retriever D’Jango are Halifax Health Volunteers of the Month for June. Bray and D’Jango joined Halifax Health – Auxiliary in 2014. As part of Halifax Health’s therapy dog team, the duo selflessly responds to almost every call sent out for a patient visit. They also regularly visit patients in the hospital’s psychiatric unit. Additionally, Bray has taken it upon herself to mentor several of the hospital’s new volunteer handlers and their dogs by accompanying them on visits until they are comfortable enough to visit on their own.
The Volunteer of the Month for July 2016 is Joan Frederick. Frederick began volunteering at Halifax Health in 1989, beginning in the Gift Shop at Halifax Health – Medical Center of Daytona Beach. Today, she volunteers at Halifax Health – Medical Center of Port Orange where she serves as a patient representative and assists with fundraisers as well as represent the Auxiliary at community events such as Port Orange Family Days. In addition, Frederick oversees the hospital’s clothes closet for patients in need, making sure it is properly stocked with clothing items. Frederick is also known to personally buy puzzle books, writing paper and games to entertain patients.
Halifax Health – Auxiliary is a local charitable 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to serve the community through partnership with Halifax Health. The Auxiliary has been operating since 1932 and serves over 400 volunteer members contributing more than 80,000 hours annually. Halifax Health – Auxiliary also assists with general fundraising efforts through their Gift Shop, sponsored sales and partnership with First Uniform – the only in-house healthcare apparel and accessory store in the Daytona Beach area.
