On Friday, April 1, Halifax Health participated in Flags Across America, a nationwide flag raising event, to help raise organ and tissue donation awareness for Donate Life Month. Speakers included Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry, Halifax Health – Center for Transplant Services affiliated with UF Health Mark Johnson, MD and Shannon Starin, RN, Lion’s Eye Institute Vice President, Jeff Thomas, Kia Blair and Ginny McBride with Our Legacy, a local living donor couple Kim & Thomas Graff, Anne Gauvin a donor recipient and Jen Eden, a family member of a donor.
Mayor Derrick Henry granted Halifax Health with a proclamation declaring April National Donate Life Month in hopes of bringing more awareness to organ donation.
At the end of the event, a Donate Life flag was raised outside of the France Tower at Halifax Health Medical Center. During the month of April, the fountains outside of the France Tower will be lit green and blue in observance.
In 2021, Halifax Health increased the amount of kidney transplants by 40% to 28 transplants and had 66 transplant organs that gave the gift of life.
