Daytona Beach, FLA – (February 23, 2021)
In an effort to assist first responders and emergency personnel in providing emergency care to Volusia County residents, Halifax Health is on a mission to distribute a free Life Kit to residents of Volusia County. The Life Kits are being distributed in Volusia County and are tied to Halifax Health Medical Center Daytona Beach, Halifax Health Medical Center Port Orange, and Halifax Health UF Health Medical Center of Deltona.
A Life Kit is a FREE envelope that includes a life card, front door / window decal and a wallet card. The life card includes important medical information such as medical conditions, medications and allergies, as well as emergency contact information. The life card is attached to a magnet so that it can adhere to a refrigerator in a way that is easy for emergency personnel to see and access. The front door or window decal alerts first responders that medical information is accessible on the refrigerator. The wallet or purse card is a piece to keep on hand, so in a case of emergency, emergency contacts are quickly notified.
“The purpose of a Life Kit is to speak for you when you can’t speak for yourself.” Dr. Stephen Viel, Medical Director of Halifax Health Emergency Services explained. “In the event of an emergency, this is important information that all caregivers need to know, sometimes in a moment’s notice.”
Halifax Health has already distributed over 500 Life Kits and requests continue to roll in. “It’s good to see Volusia County residents be proactive about their own care.” said Dr. Viel. Halifax Health plans to continue to fulfill Life Kit requests well into 2021, with no end date to the program.
