Halifax Health-Hospice has expanded its services into the Orlando area with the opening of its Orange-Osceola Office at 5210 South Orange Avenue, Orlando.

“Halifax Health-Hospice is proud to announce our expansion into the Orlando area.  The tremendous growth taking place in Orange and Osceola counties enables us to provide services and programs to the Central Florida market.  We are excited to have the opportunity to provide the same broad range of services to people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs that we deliver every day in Volusia and Flagler counties,” explains Fran Davis, executive director of Halifax Health-Hospice.  She adds, “Our Orange and Osceola team is fully staffed with highly experienced hospice management professionals and caregivers.”

The Agency for Health Care Administration forecasts that this year, projected deaths in Orange and Osceola counties will exceed the number currently served by the area’s five licensed hospice organizations, creating the need for an additional provider capable of serving more than 500 patients.

With its further expansion into the Central Florida market to serve all patients needing hospice care, Halifax Health-Hospice will focus on serving the traditionally underserved populations, including Hispanics, veterans, children and patients under 65 years of age with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.  The hospice program will provide several bereavement services such as individual and family grief support; grief support for children; grief support groups; school support groups; memorial services; community outreach; resource materials and referrals.

In addition to establishing easy access to services, Davis believes that education and support is an important part of creating an organization with strong roots in the communities served.  “Halifax Health-Hospice has a strong track record of active and effective community outreach and education programs and we plan to continue that with our entrance into Orange and Osceola counties.  We are anxious to create working relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, faith-based groups and veterans’ organizations,” she explains, adding, “Though hospice care is recognized by Medicare and most insurance plans, there still are those for whom funding is an issue and we want to be sure no one is denied the highest level of care for that reason.”

A not-for-profit organization, Halifax Health-Hospice has estimated that the new hospice service will be phased in over a two-year period, providing an additional 90 healthcare jobs in Central Florida.

Licensed since 1979, Halifax Health-Hospice currently operates four inpatient Care Centers that serve Volusia and Flagler counties.  The Care Centers are located in Port Orange, OrangeCity, Edgewater and Ormond Beach.  Halifax Health-Hospice has an average daily census of approximately 600 patients in the Volusia-Flagler area, accounting for more than half of hospice admissions.  As services and programs continue to increase within Orange and Osceola counties, Halifax Health-Hospice plans to build the first free-standing care center in that region within the next few years.
