DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (September 10, 2020) – Halifax Health – Hospice will host the 19th Annual 5K Run & Walk as virtual event this year from October 18 – November 15. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Halifax Health – Hospice Family Caregiver Program. The online event is powered by Dale’s Shoes and in memory of James J. Gallagher, Founder of Mid-Florida Sportswear, LLC.

This year’s event will be held virtually to ensure the safety of participants and volunteers. As a virtual participant you sign up as you normally would, run or walk the 3.1 miles on your own and then submit that you have completed it on the race website between October 18 – November 15.  There is also the option to participate as a Non-Runner Supporter. This option allows supporters to register without any actual participation required.

This fundraiser supports the Halifax Health – Hospice Family Caregiver Program, which allows for intermittent caregiver support to provide relief for the caregiver during their loved ones end-of-life journey. Because of fundraisers like this, Halifax Health – Hospice was able to provide $2.3 Million in services to our community in 2019 and continues to be the Top Rated and Most Recommended Hospice in Central Florida.

“We are excited to be hosting our 19th Annual 5K virtually this year,” said Ben Eby, Executive Director of Halifax Health – Hospice. “With our services spanning four counties and many of our patient family members living across the country, a virtual event will allow a broader group of our supporters to safely participate from wherever they may be.”

All participants are encouraged to register early. To register online, go to halifaxhealth.org/hospice5K. Online registration is open through November 14. In-person registration and packet pick-up will take place outside of the Halifax Health – Hospice Port Orange Care Center, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, on October 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Packets not picked up on October 16 will be taken to Dale’s Shoes and Pedorthics, 2595 W. International Speedway Blvd. and can be picked up during regular business hours.

Event registration is $30. Children 12 and under receive a free registration with a paid adult registration, limit one per adult. Those who register will receive t-shirts and goodie bags, while supplies last. For an additional fee, participants can choose to have their shirt mailed to them.
