Halifax Health has been rated as “high performing” in two adult procedures – hip and knee replacements – by U.S. News & World Report.  The designations are listed in the publication’s 26th edition of its Best Hospitals rankings.

“Orthopedics continues to be one of Halifax Health’s most lauded health services.  The Halifax Health – Center for Orthopedics offers a comprehensive selection of services, consistent high-quality outcomes for patients and low readmission rates,” says Alberto Tineo, vice president of operations for Halifax Health.  He adds, “Our orthopedics team should be commended for achieving these designations which are a testament to the expert care they provide.”

According to U.S. News & World Report, high-performing hospitals exceeded expected standards of care.  Ten percent of hospitals rated in knee replacement and 11 percent of hospitals rated in hip replacement were deemed high performing.  Just 220 hospitals were deemed high performing in at least one specialty.

The ratings were determined by several performance measures, including: survival, readmissions for any reason within 30 days, patient volume, nurse staffing, intensivist on staff, and patient experience.

Designed to help patients with life-threatening or rare conditions identify hospitals that excel in treating the most difficult cases, Best Hospitals includes consumer-friendly data and information on nearly 5,000 medical centers nationwide.
