DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (March 4, 2019) – On Monday, February 25, Halifax Health and University of Florida Health hosted an event to announce their collaboration to enhance the neurosurgery services offered by Halifax Health Medical Center.  The newly launched UF Health Neurosurgery Program at Halifax Health compliments the nationally lauded care provided by the Halifax Health – Center for Neurosciences which boasts the area’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center.

“Halifax Health is proud to once again collaborate with UF Health to bring the highest level of neurosurgical care to East Central Florida residents.  UF Health Neurosurgery is a leader in Florida for neurosurgical care and is known for providing leading-edge, compassionate care and unparalleled research for the full range of neurosurgical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves,” explains Matt Petkus, vice president of operations for Halifax Health.

Four board-certified neurosurgeons, all of whom serve as associate professors in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, comprise the program’s team.  Members of the neurosurgical team include: William A. Friedman, M.D.; Jacques Farkas, M.D.; Chandan G. Reddy, M.D.; and Roland A. Torres, M.D.  Their specialties include: neurotrauma, neuro-oncology, spinal surgery, epilepsy surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, brain tumors, and pain disorders.  Dr. Friedman serves as the medical director for the program.

“This level of expertise increases the number of advanced surgical procedures available to Halifax Health patients without having to travel out of the area to Orlando, Jacksonville or Gainesville,” Petkus says.
