Kwong Named Halifax Health Vice President, Chief Medical Information Officer

Ginny Kwong, M.D., FAAFP, has been named vice president and chief medical information officer (CMIO) for Halifax Health.

As CMIO, Dr. Kwong works closely with Halifax Health administrative and clinical leadership on strategic planning, policy development, and clinical information system implementation throughout the health system.  She strategically leads the organization in design and integration of best practice clinical information technology to leverage the delivery of safe, efficient, quality patient care.

Since 2010, Dr. Kwong has served as the chief of Halifax Health’s Family Medicine Department and has worked as a hospitalist since 2004.  She has been instrumental in leading Halifax Health’s adoption of an Electronic Health Record (EHR), achieving Meaningful Use Stage 1 and Stage 2 as chairman of the Medical Informatics Governance Board.  She has also led the implementation of new evidenced-based care designed pathways as chairman of the Multidisciplinary Clinical Innovative Committee which has resulted in improved patient quality outcomes.  She serves on the EHR policy board; Medical Care Evaluation Committee; Surgical Services Interdisciplinary Council; Healthcare Informatics Committee; Intensive Care Committee; Neuroscience Committee; Infection Control Committee; Quality Council; Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; Evidenced-Based Order Set Committee; and the Technology Advisory Committee.

Dr. Kwong completed undergraduate studies at Washington University, graduating with honors completing a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Research Fellowship.  She completed medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Family Medicine Residency program at Halifax Health where she was chief resident.  She is a recipient of the prestigious American Academy of Family Physician (AAFP) Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education which recognizes physicians for leadership, civic involvement, exemplary patient care, and aptitude for an interest in family medicine.  She has served on the AAFP Committee on Chapter Affairs and Committee on Scientific Assembly.
