The focus of their first Sigma Wellness event will be on Diabetes, Nutrition, and Fitness in the African American community
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (April 15, 2021) –
On Saturday, April 24, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm Phi Beta Sigma will host an event to educate men and women about better overall health, living a healthier lifestyle, and provide information on how to navigate the resources that are available to the local community.
The Zoom event will be recorded for YouTube. The featured speaker will be Poonam Kapadia, MD, Endocrinologist at UF Health Endocrinology at Halifax Health. Kapadia is an integral part of the Lohman Diabetes Center of Excellence and specializing in diagnosing and treating type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Other speakers include Stacy Scrabis, Nutrionist, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, and Bobby Cyril from by Any Means Fitness will discuss Wellness and Fitness. The event will be moderated by Dr. Josh Brandon and Dean O’Brien.
Halifax Health, Radiology Associates and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity – Beta Zeta Sigma Chapter are the presenting sponsors for this wellness event.
On the event, Dean O’Brien, President of Beta Zeta Sigma Chapter in Daytona Beach says, “Sigma Wellness is our community health initiative designed to educate and inform our membership and the community about key health issues facing people of color. Engaging our communities through dialogue about overall quality of health and solutions to improve our well-being by addressing diet and nutrition, obesity and weight control, and other important topics related to our health is the foundation of our effort.”
O’Brien continued to say that, “Through our partnering with Halifax Health we are proud to bring Dr. Poonam Kapadia, one of the leading endocrinologists in the area, to this program that will provide a forum to have this dialogue. We truly want a dialogue and believe this is the perfect format for us to do so.”
