National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255): Suicide hotline, 24/7 free and confidential, nationwide network of crisis centers.

According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that every year one million people die from suicide. Halifax Health is committed to being a part of a solution to preventing suicide by providing mental wellness services and resources for those who are in need.

Why did we create Connect 4 Hope?

While many people have been impacted in some way by suicide, most of the general public does not know the staggering suicide statistics and the groups of people that are most at risk to try and complete suicide. Suicide is also something that is not discussed in a public forum until it is too late. Also, many don’t know about the various resources that are available to help when someone is depressed or suicidal. With social media and technology increasing isolation it is of extreme importance that we provide a place where someone can find all of the available avenues to help prevent suicide.

What does Connect 4 Hope mean?

Connecting with yourself. Listen internally and know the importance of giving yourself a daily mental health check up.

Connecting with someone. A friend, family member, work colleague or someone else may reach out to you and need you to listen about everything that is going on in their life, including the struggles they may face on a daily basis. This includes being able to connect with a person or group of people that you can confide in and deal with all the stress that life can bring.

Connecting to resources available. Know that there are numerous local resources available to prevent suicide and help increase mental wellness.
