Robotic lung surgery – A Revolution in Minimally Invasive Surgery
Using advanced surgical techniques, our UF Health surgeons can perform robotic lung surgery with great precision with the da Vinci® Robotic Surgery System. The robotic feature allows them to direct the surgery by using a camera and robot. This method of lung surgery allows for greater precision, with the work being done through a smaller opening. A minimally invasive procedure, it provides shorter hospital stays, less postoperative pain and recovery times, and smaller scars. This type of surgery is often used for those who have lung cancer.
VATS Lung Surgery
This is a video-assisted thoracic surgery that is performed using a small video camera. For this type of surgery, the instruments used are inserted through small incisions into the chest. Images of the inside of the chest are displayed on the video screen, which serves as a guide to the surgeon who will use them to help guide the surgery. This procedure may be used to get a biopsy to test for lung cancer, to help with lung surgery, or various other means.
