Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

The UF Health Heart Surgery Program at Halifax Health is the only heart program in East Central Florida that is actively performing minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

UF board certified and fellowship trained cardiothoracic surgeons, Sohit Khanna, MD, and Cary Meyers, MD, perform a variety of minimally invasive cardiac procedures that benefit patients tremendously. During these procedures, small incisions are made on the side of the chest and our surgeons operate between the ribs, rather than traditional open heart surgery when the surgeons has to open the sternum / chest. This technique results in less scarring, less pain, a shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery for patients.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery that is performed the most at Halifax Health:

  • Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement
  • Minimally invasive mitral valve repair and replacement

Other types of minimally invasive cardiac surgeries:

  • Minimally invasive atrial septal defect (ASD) repair
  • Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Minimally invasive intracardiac tumor resection
  • Minimally invasive tricuspid valve repair and replacement
