Halifax Health has collaborated with UF Health to bring advanced thoracic, cardiovascular and vascular surgical care to Volusia, Flagler and Brevard Counties. Board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons from UF Health lead the program and are located at the main campus of Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Halifax Health serves as the areas only Level II Trauma Center and through this partnership with UF Health we can now expand on the services available to our community reach in Florida.

UF Health Heart and Vascular Surgery at Halifax Health is located at the state-of-the-art medical facility Halifax Health|UF Health Medical Center of Deltona and is ready to provide treatment for a variety of vascular needs.

Dr. Michael Yacoub, MD, FACS is a full-time clinical surgeon within the division of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Yacoub is board-certified in general surgery and vascular surgery.

Dr. Yacoub clinical interests include open and endovascular repair of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm, dialysis access creation and maintenance, treatment of venous pathology, peripheral occlusive disease, treatment of cerebrovascular occlusive disease, and open and endovascular treatment of chronic mesenteric ischemia.

The UF Health Heart Surgery Program at Halifax Health earned the highest and most distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in aortic valve replacement (AVR) combined with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The three-star rating, places UF Health Heart Surgery at Halifax Health among the elite for AVR+CABG surgery in the United States and Canada.

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) is a not-for-profit organization that represents more than 7,300 surgeons, researchers and allied health care professionals worldwide who are dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcomes for surgeries of the heart, lung and esophagus, as well as other surgical procedures within the chest. The Society’s mission is to enhance the ability of cardiothoracic surgeons to provide the highest quality patient care through education, research and advocacy.

Where do I check-in day of surgery?
The day of surgery you will check in at the Fountain Tower entrance at 5:00 am. From there you will be directed to same day surgery located on the third floor. Once the patient has been taken to surgery, the family will be directed to the third floor surgical waiting room.

Family visits the night of surgery
Family members are encouraged to visit; however, we do ask that visitors take a break from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm to allow for your nursing team to change shifts efficiently and focus on the care on your loved ones.

UF Health Vascular Surgery at Halifax Health, with board-certified vascular surgeons Robert J. Feezor, MD, and Michael Yacoub, MD, achieved a three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission, or IAC, in Vascular Testing in the area(s) of Peripheral Venous Testing, Peripheral Arterial Testing and Extracranial Cerebrovascular Testing. IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care and dedication to continuous improvement.

A board-certified and fellowship-trained vascular and general surgeon. Dr. Feezor is known nationally for complex aortic aneurysm repair, as well as covering a breadth of vascular diseases including aortic aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease and varicose vein disease. Dr. Feezor practices in Daytona Beach and his UF Health practice is at Halifax Health Medical Center.

Robert J. Feezor, MD, FACS, is an associate professor of surgery in the division of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He is a vascular surgeon who is board-certified in general surgery and vascular surgery.

After majoring in chemistry at Davidson College in North Carolina, he attended medical school at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at UF, during which he completed a National Institutes of Health-funded T32 research fellowship in trauma and burns. He served as administrative chief resident and then transitioned to the vascular surgery fellowship program.

Prior to joining UF Health Heart and Vascular Surgery at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Dr. Feezor practiced at UF Health in Gainesville for eight years. During this time, he served as program director for the vascular fellowship program, as well as director for the UF Health Comprehensive Vein Center. He was awarded the national Resident Award for Exemplary Teaching by the American College of Surgeons in 2005, the Hugh M. Hill Award for outstanding resident teacher in the College of Medicine in both 2005 and 2006, and the Department’s Outstanding Faculty Award in 2010.

Dr. Feezor’s clinical interests include open surgical and endovascular treatment of aortic diseases, peripheral and visceral occlusive disease and dialysis access creation and maintenance.

For Dr. Feezor, the most important part of treating his patients is an understanding with the patient and his or her family regarding the patient’s wishes. He believes that having a firm understanding of these wishes is paramount to quality patient care.

Stephen Ball, MD is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon at UF Health Heart and Vascular Surgery at Halifax Health. He aims to provide compassionate care and improve cardiovascular outcomes for his patients.

He received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, where subsequently he completed a residency in general surgery. He has also completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Rush Presbyterian, St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Ball brings more than 25 years of experience in cardiac surgery, with clinical interests in coronary artery bypass surgery and minimally invasive approaches to valve repair and replacement for patients with valvular heart disease.

His robust experience spans both private and academic clinical settings, most recently at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. In addition to his clinical expertise, he is the author of publications and presentations.

Felipe Cadavid, MD, graduated summa cum laude from University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in biology. A graduate of Florida State University College of Medicine, Cadavid completed his general surgery residency at University of Florida College of Medicine and his vascular and endovascular surgery fellowship at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has won numerous awards and honors and has teaching experience.

Cadavid is an avid collector of vinyl albums, CDs and digital music. He is a guitar player and collector and also enjoys playing the ukulele, organ, synthesizer and electronic drums. He enjoys outdoor pastimes such as skeet, trap and sporting clays. Cadavid is bilingual in English and Spanish and is an authorized Spanish language medical interpreter.
