Halifax Health Chief Nursing Officer Catherine Luchsinger and Nicole Smith, 2016 Nurse of Excellence
Nicole Smith, a registered nurse who works in Halifax Health – Center for Oncology, was named Halifax Health’s 2016 Nurse of Excellence.
The Nurse of Excellence Award annually honors outstanding Halifax Health nursing professionals for their dedication to quality patient care. Candidates nominated meet the following criteria: maintain ethical and professional behavior; participate in teaching of health maintenance and disease prevention; support quality improvement initiatives throughout the organization; offer nursing care that reflects the mission, vision and values of nursing service; and possess the ability to apply critical thinking and decision-making skills to care for the patient’s needs.

The “Rookie of the Year” award, which is given to newly hired nurses, went to Amber McLaughlin, a registered nurse who works in the Halifax Health – Center for Orthopedics.
