Dr. Alexis Flynn-Hanlon was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida. She spent her childhood playing sports and enjoying various outdoor activities alongside her numerous family members. Growing up with an older brother who has Down Syndrome, she quickly became passionate about health inequity, and this became the launching pad for her medical career. She graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Microbiology and Cell Science, and a minor in Health Disparities. She then continued her education at the University of Florida where she obtained her medical doctorate.
During her academic years, Dr. Flynn-Hanlon volunteered alongside within multiple programs for children and adults with disabilities. Her interest in health disparities also led to a passion for rural medicine and low-resource settings. It was this, and the desire to form lasting relationships with her patients, that drew her to Family Medicine. She advocated for Family Medicine with multiple positions in the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) and received her medical school's annual award for Excellence in Family Medicine. She is excited to be a part of the Halifax Health team and devotes herself to improving the health of the Daytona population.
Dr. Flynn-Hanlon’s professional interests include rural medicine, lifestyle medicine, dermatology, women’s health, and health advocacy. Outside of medicine, her interests include gardening, hiking, videogames of many varieties, tabletop games alongside her husband, and spending time with her family, and somewhat grumpy dog, Copper.
