Austin Rice, MD

Austin Rice, MD

About

Dr. Austin Rice was born in Boise Idaho, the 14th of 15 children, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and mountain biking in the mountains of Idaho before moving to North Carolina. Austin spent time in Lincolnton North Carolina working and attending a local community college prior to  attending East Carolina University in Greenville North Carolina. Austin received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in public health with a focus on statistical analysis. He spent time working in clinical trials research after graduation for two years prior to being accepted to medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University where he developed a love for family medicine.

Austin finds joy in learning medicine and serving his community. He has been able to help organize volunteers for hurricane cleanup and relief, participate in a county wide community health assessment, and he developed an information system for the Greenville Community Shelter Clinic, a free clinic in Greenville NC. This made it possible not only for the clinic to streamline services, but was instrumental in presenting to the community the need for expansion of the clinic’s services. Austin loves to explore the outdoors, and if you ask him his favorite chess opening is the Dragon variant of the Sicilian. Austin is married to his beautiful wife Kimberly, and they have three wonderful children
