Additional info

Austin Rice, MD was born in Boise, Idaho, the 14th of 15 children, and enjoyed fishing, camping and mountain biking in the mountains before moving to North Carolina. Dr. Rice spent time in Lincolnton, N.C. working and attending a local community college prior to attending East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in public health with a focus on statistical analysis. Dr. Rice spent time working in clinical trials research after graduation for two years before being accepted to medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University where he developed a love for family medicine.

Dr. Rice finds joy in learning medicine and serving his community. He has been able to help organize volunteers for hurricane cleanup and relief, participate in a county-wide community health assessment and he also developed an information system for the Greenville Community Shelter Clinic, a free clinic in Greenville, N.C. This made it possible not only for the clinic to streamline services but was instrumental in presenting to the community the need for expansion of the clinic’s services.

Dr. Rice loves to explore the outdoors, and his favorite chess opening is the Dragon variant of the Sicilian. Austin is married to his beautiful wife Kimberly, and they have three wonderful children.
