Dr. Carolyn Geis completed her medical school at the University of Texas where she served as class president and was nominated for the highest award at graduation, the Gold Cane Award.
She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Saint Joseph/Northwestern Hospital and her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, both in Chicago. While in residency, she served as chief resident and was elected to the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Resident Council.
After completing her training, Dr. Geis accepted a faculty position at Emory University in Atlanta. She was medical director for the stroke rehabilitation program, and associate medical director and vice chairman of the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Also at Emory, she was the medical director of the Paralympic tennis competition and presented a related research project internationally.
Dr. Geis joined the medical staff of Halifax Health in 1998. During her years at Halifax Health, she developed Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services across the continuum of care. These include acute hospital consultation, inpatient rehabilitation care, outpatient physician practice, and community reintegration services. Dr. Geis has been active in the FSU College of Medicine offering elective rotations for fourth-year medical students. She has authored multiple publications in the areas of stroke rehabilitation and spasticity management.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Geis enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, and being outdoors.
