Dr. Garner Boogaerts was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he earned a Bachelor of Science majoring in biology. He then obtained a Master of Science from UAB, where his research focused on halophilic archaea and astrobiologyDr, Boogaerts worked as a Patient Care Technician in an Emergency Department at a community hospital in Birmingham, AL, while applying for medical school. He attended UAB School of Medicine. While obtaining his medical degree he also completed a Master of Public Health through the UAB School of Public Health.
He is interested in serving underserved populations as well as the geriatric population. During medical school, he volunteered at a student run free clinic, Equal Access Birmingham, and he conducted research focused on fall prevention in the geriatric population with Dr. Cynthia Brown. Outside of medicine, Dr. Boogaerts loves the outdoors, reading, watching documentaries, spending time with his wife (Ariana), and taking their 9-month-old mini poodle (Mila) on outdoor adventures
