Ian Tafel, MD, is a board-certified University of Florida neurosurgeon at UF Health Neurosurgery – Halifax Health. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Tafel was a third-generation industrial machinery mechanic. He received his medical degree from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Harvard and Brigham and Women’s hospital and conducted research at MIT where he worked on nerve regeneration and the fabrication of advanced materials for medical applications leading to multiple publications.
Dr. Tafel completed his fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at University of Miami School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical work, he has published dozens of research papers in the field of neurosurgery.
Dr. Tafel’s clinical interests include degenerative disorders of the spine, minimally invasive spine surgery, and spinal deformities.
During his free time, Dr. Tafel enjoys spending time at the beach with his family and working on cars. He is also a private airplane pilot.
