Kathryn Fraser, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and the Behavioral Medicine Coordinator. She completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Florida and started in the residency program in 1994. Her professional interests include anxiety disorders, health disparities, physician wellness, and mentorship in academic medicine. She provides psychotherapy for patients in the Family Health Center, and enjoys consulting with residents using a biopsychosocial approach to care.
She is a former Director of the Behavioral Science/Family Systems Educator Fellowship (BFEF), a nationwide mentoring program for early career Behavioral Medicine faculty, sponsored by the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM). She frequently presents at various STFM conferences, including keynote addresses for the behavioral science conferences. She reviews articles for Family Medicine, Families, Systems and Health Journal, and the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine. She has published in these journals, and several others, as well as authoring several book chapters. In 2022, she received STFM’s Susan McDaniel Distinguished Career Award for excellence in behavioral science education.
Dr. Fraser spearheaded the cultural competency/health disparities curriculum in the residency program. She is currently overseeing the antiracism curriculum, and is on the Justice/Equity/Diversity/Inclusion (JEDI) Committee which promotes equity and fairness in all aspects of the residency program, including community involvement. She developed STFM’s Underrepresented in Medicine Mentorship Program (URM MP) and led this program for 4 years. In 2022, Dr. Fraser was awarded STFM’s Inaugural Diversity award for being instrumental in making a difference in the areas of health equity and Diversity/Equity/Inclusion (DEI). She was recently appointed to be a Member at Large on the board of STFM.
Personally, she enjoys dining out and travelling with her husband and their 2 adult children. Her hobbies include yoga, needlepoint, watching suspenseful drama series, exploring all things food, and spending time in Florida’s outdoors with family and her lovable dog.
