Sohit Khanna, MD, is an assistant professor for the University of Florida College of Medicine and a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon. Dr. Khanna completed medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and underwent his general surgery training and a cardiopulmonary transplantation fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He completed his cardiothoracic surgical training at the Medical College of Georgia. From 2001 to 2004, Dr. Khanna was an associate cardiothoracic surgeon at Iowa Heart Center in Des Moines. In 2004, he was recruited as an associate cardiothoracic surgeon at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Kentucky, where he started a new heart and lung surgical program. In 2005, the program was awarded the Carescience Select Practice National Quality Leader recognition in cardiac bypass surgery and has since been ranked in the top 5% in the nation by Healthgrades in cardiac surgical care. In 2009, Dr. Khanna incorporated robotic cardiothoracic surgical techniques into the practice and in 2011, the hospital became an observational and proctoring center for training robotic surgeons from across the nation.After 11 successful years in Kentucky, Dr. Khanna joined the UF Health Heart and Vascular Surgery program at Halifax Health. His interests include performing “beating heart” or off-pump heart bypass surgery with endoscopic vein harvesting, minimally invasive robotic cardiothoracic procedures and ascending aortic aneurysm repair.
