Stephen Viel, M.D., Named Medical Director for Emergency Services at Halifax Health

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (April 23, 2018) – Stephen Viel, M.D., a board-certified emergency medicine physician, has been named the medical director for emergency services at Halifax Health.  In this role, he will provide guidance, leadership and oversight to Halifax Health’s Level II Trauma Center and emergency departments in Daytona Beach, Port Orange and Deltona.

A Halifax Health emergency physician since 2013, Dr. Viel has served as the interim medical director for emergency services since August.  He also serves as a clinical assistant professor for the Florida State University College of Medicine where he is responsible for the supervision and education of fourth year medical students on their required emergency medicine rotation.

Dr. Viel is a 2009 graduate of the Florida State University College of Medicine where he earned the following honors: Excellence in Emergency Medicine Award, Halifax Health Medical Staff Francisco Herrero Award, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Excellence in Academics Award, Medical Student Council Member of the Year and the James H. Fling Scholarship.  In 2005, he graduated magna cum laude from FSU with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.

Dr. Viel completed residency training in emergency medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland where he also completed Focused Advanced Specialty Training in Critical Care Medicine.  He is board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
