Falls are a leading cause of injury and hospital admissions for older adults. Each year, millions of older adults—those 65 and older—fall. In fact, more than one out of four older adults falls each year, and falling once doubles the chances of falling again. Falls can result in serious injuries such as hip fractures, broken bones, and head injuries.
Frequency of Falls: About 36 million falls are reported among older adults each year—resulting in more than 32,000 deaths.
Severity: One out of five falls causes a serious injury such as broken bones or a head injury.
Healthcare Costs: Falls among older adults cost the U.S. healthcare system about $50 billion annually.
Our collaborative falls assessment program aims to reduce the risk of falls through thorough evaluation and personalized intervention strategies. This program is brought to you by Halifax Health, Palmer College of Chiropractic, Brooks Rehabilitation, and the Volusia Flagler YMCA.
