Discover the Power of Your Lungs! A Fun and Educational Event for All Ages
Presented by Halifax Health – Charles L. & Miki N. Grant Cancer Center of Hope
Join us for an exciting and interactive event where students of all ages, from elementary school to nursing school, can explore how our lungs work and why they’re so important to our health!
“Our lungs are amazing organs,” says Dr. Harold Matos-Casano, a pulmonary care specialist at Halifax Health. “They help us breathe by bringing oxygen into our bodies and removing carbon dioxide. They also help keep us healthy by filtering out harmful particles and germs from the air.”
At this event, you’ll learn:
· How your lungs work and why they’re essential to your body
· Tips for keeping your lungs strong and healthy
· The dangers of smoking and exposure to harmful substances
· How to prevent lung cancer and other lung diseases
“Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for both men and women around the world,” explains Dr. Zafar Latif, a cancer specialist at the Halifax Health - Cancer Center of Hope. “While there are many causes, smoking is the number one risk factor. Other risks include secondhand smoke, asbestos, radon gas, and family history.”
Visitors will also receive helpful resources about lung health, including information on how to quit smoking and where to find support, if needed.
This is a great opportunity for students, teachers, and future healthcare professionals to learn more about the lungs in a fun, hands-on way. We hope to see you there!
