Halifax Health Expands Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Suite, Increasing HBOT Treatment Options

Daytona Beach, FL – (August 20, 2024) Halifax Health has expanded its Hyperbaric Medicine Program with the opening of a new Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) suite. This expansion includes the addition of three brand-new HBOT chambers, bringing the total number to six, making Halifax Health the destination for highest level of scientifically-based hyperbaric treatment in the area.

Unlike traditional HBOT programs primarily associated with wound care, Halifax Health’s newly expanded program offers a broad range of additional treatments for various complex conditions. HBOT, which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment, has proven effective in enhancing oxygen absorption, promoting cell regeneration, and aiding recovery across a wide spectrum of medical conditions.

The program offers treatments for common conditions like non-healing wounds, wounds related to diabetes, radiation injury, and bone infections. However, it also explores the potential of HBOT in managing challenging conditions such as traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), long COVID, autism, chronic pain, chronic Lyme disease, post-stroke recovery, and even certain types of hearing and vision loss.

Dr. Steven Levine, Dr. Scott Covington, and Dr. Paul Johnson lead the Advanced Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine team at Halifax Health. Dr. Johnson, who completed his fellowship in hyperbaric medicine at LSU in Harvey, Louisiana, brings extensive experience in HBOT, enhancing the program's capability to offer tailored, comprehensive treatment plans for each patient.

“We’re excited to offer enhanced access to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy through our new suite and chambers,” said Jeff Feasel, President and CEO of Halifax Health. “This expansion represents our commitment to pushing the boundaries of medical care in our region. As the only hospital-based facility with a fellowship-trained hyperbaric provider in the area, we are uniquely positioned to deliver the most complex treatments that can make a profound difference in our patients' lives.”

With the new HBOT suite, Halifax Health not only expands its capacity to treat more patients but also reinforces its position as a leader in innovative medical care, continuously exploring the potential of HBOT in improving patient outcomes.
