Daytona Beach, FL – (February 11, 2025) – Halifax Health - Center for Cardiology announces another healthcare first with their use of Abbott AVEIR DR, the world’s first dual chamber leadless pacemaker system, becoming the first hospital to handle this device in Volusia County. Dr. Niloufar Wilson’s successful execution of this procedure opens up a new, minimally invasive, and more efficient option for individuals with slow or irregular heart rhythms.
The Abbott AVEIR™ DR is a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker system, a breakthrough in heart technology that helps regulate irregular heartbeats without the need for wires or chest surgery. It consists of two tiny, wireless pacemakers—one placed in the right atrium and the other in the right ventricle—that communicate using Abbott’s i2i™ wireless technology to keep the heart beating naturally. Implanted through a minimally invasive procedure via a catheter, the devices eliminate the need for chest incisions or bulky implants. Unlike traditional pacemakers, AVEIR™ DR offers a more natural heart rhythm, fewer complications, easier battery replacement, and greater freedom for active individuals. This innovative approach makes pacemaker therapy safer, more efficient, and more in tune with the body’s natural function. “Halifax Health continues to lead the way in patient-centered innovation,” says Dr. Wilson, who is excited to offer this new technology to patients. "I am incredibly proud to work at Halifax Health, where technology is embraced to enhance and support the care we give our patients."
