Halifax Health to Host 6th Annual Lowell Lohman Thriving with Diabetes Community Expo

Halifax Health will host the 6th Annual Lowell Lohman Thriving with Diabetes Community Expo, presented by Florida Health Care Plans, on Friday, November 13, at the Mori Hosseini Center at Daytona State College.

The free event is designed for people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as their families and caregivers. The expo opens at 8:00 am, with the conference from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. Attendees can learn from diabetes experts, participate in interactive sessions and visit nearly 20 healthcare and community exhibitors. Complimentary coffee and lunch will be provided.

A special feature of this year’s expo will be a live cooking demonstration by Chef Costa Magoulis, offering practical ideas for preparing healthy, flavorful meals while managing diabetes.

This year’s keynote speaker is Kyle Banks, founder and CEO of Kyler Cares, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while performing in Broadway’s The Lion King.

“Kyle is a wonderful example of what it means to thrive with diabetes,” said Nancy Lohman. “He took his own experience and turned it into a mission to help others. Lowell would have loved his spirit and his commitment to helping families live well with diabetes.”

The event continues the vision of the late Lowell Lohman, whose experience living with Type 1 diabetes inspired Lowell and Nancy Lohman to champion better diabetes care, education and support.

“Lowell believed diabetes should never define what someone can accomplish,” said John Guthrie, Executive Director of the Halifax Health - Foundation. “His vision was to give people the knowledge, tools and support they need to live their fullest lives. This event carries that legacy forward.”

Leading up to the expo, Halifax Health diabetes educators, licensed dietitians and patient navigators will take that education into the community through local radio programs. They will appear on WNDB’s Community Unity with Charlene and Kurt Greer from 8:00 – 9:00 am on November 4, and on Joy Radio with Daisy Grimes during the noon hour on October 26, November 2, and November 12.

The expo is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged. Attendees can register online at halifaxhealth.org/ThrivingWithDiabetes.
