A Maternity Nurse Navigator is your personal coach, advocate, and guide from pregnancy through parenthood. Your navigator works with you and your partner to provide education, set expectations, and help ensure a positive pregnancy, labor, and delivery experience.

When Should I Call My Maternity Nurse Navigator?

It’s never too soon to call. Your Maternity Nurse Navigator is here to answer questions even before your first prenatal appointment. Whether you’re wondering about prenatal vitamins, calculating your due date, or making dietary changes, your navigator is available to provide guidance.

What Will My Maternity Nurse Navigator and I Discuss?

Your Maternity Nurse Navigator will address your immediate questions and schedule follow-up meetings to support you throughout your pregnancy.

First Meeting (10–20 Weeks Gestation)

  • Getting to know each other

  • Your pregnancy and delivery preferences

  • What to expect each month

  • Physician visit schedules and questions for your provider

  • Maintaining a safe, active pregnancy

  • Healthy nutrition

  • Routine pregnancy testing

  • Tour of Halifax Health – Center for Women & Infant Health

Second Meeting (20–30 Weeks Gestation)

  • Creating your specific "Birth Day Wishes"

Third Meeting (30–40 Weeks Gestation)

  • Signing hospital consents Consent Forms Due to personal information being submitted, the Consent Forms must be filled out in person, over the phone at 425.BABY, or mailed.

  • Hospital pre-registration – Fast Pass to Delivery Due to personal information being submitted, the Fast Pass to Delivery forms must be filled out in person, over the phone at 425.BABY, or mailed.

  • Selecting and enrolling in classes

  • Choosing a pediatrician

  • When to go to the hospital

  • Packing your hospital bag

  • Finalizing your birth plan

  • Addressing any concerns

Postpartum Follow-Up (1–3 Weeks After Delivery)

  • Community resources and support groups

  • Recognizing baby blues and postpartum depression

  • Breastfeeding guidance

  • Addressing any questions or concerns
