Poole, Monast Recognized As Halifax Health DAISY Award Winners

Halifax Health recently honored two registered nurses – Gina Poole and Aaron Monast – as winners of the community health system’s December 2017 DAISY Award recognizing extraordinary nurses.

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – (March 19, 2018) – Halifax Health recently honored two registered nurses – Gina Poole and Aaron Monast – as winners of the community health system’s December 2017 DAISY Award recognizing extraordinary nurses.

Gina Poole of Daytona Beach has been a registered nurse for nearly three years.  An honors graduate of Daytona State College’s nursing program, she currently works in the medical intensive care unit.  Her future goals include continuing her education to become a nurse practitioner.  She humbly states, “It is such an honor to be a part of the nursing profession and help others.”

The patient’s family that nominated Poole for the DAISY Award wrote the following, “I am convinced that Gina has angel wings hidden somewhere under her scrubs.  Gina constantly goes far above and beyond her call of duty.  Caring for someone critically ill is no doubt taxing and stressful, but Gina gracefully never lets it show.  She is a model nurse and I am beyond grateful to have my grandmother in her care.  Gina is the most competent and caring nurse we have ever met.  Thank you, Gina.”

Aaron Monast of Daytona Beach is a recent graduate of Daytona State College’s nursing program.  A Halifax Health employee for five years, he is currently a registered nurse in the surgical intensive care unit.

A patient’s family nominated Monast for this award and wrote the following, “Thank you, Aaron, for making sure my dad never showed pain, anxiety or fear in his last hours.  Thank you for taking the extra time to make sure he was comfortable.  Thank you for saying, ‘Hey B, guess who is here’ and having my dad look at the door and see the happiness on his face to see my mother and I walk through the door.  I just can’t thank you enough.”

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.  A DAISY Award Partner, Halifax Health encourages patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and employees to nominate a nurse each month for this honor.

About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33.  During his eight-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to him, but his entire family.  The foundation, whose name DAISY is an acronym for diseases that attack the immune system, has as one of its goals to recognize extraordinary nurses who make an enormous difference in the lives of those they care for with the superhuman work they do every day.  To learn more about the DAISY Foundation, go to daisyfoundation.org.
