UF Health Vascular Surgeons at Halifax Health Introduce New Non-Invasive TAMBE Stent Technology

Daytona Beach, FL – (June 25, 2024)  UF Health Vascular surgeons at Halifax Health have added the latest treatment for people with the most complex aortic aneurysms in our area with the GORE® EXCLUDER® Thoracoabdominal Branch Endoprosthesis (TAMBE). Dr. Michael Yacoub, Dr. Robert Feezor, and Dr. Felipe Cadavid of UF Health Heart and Vascular Surgery at Halifax Health are spearheading its implementation, providing the highest level of vascular care in the region.

What is the TAMBE stent? Imagine the TAMBE stent as a tiny, flexible support structure or tube for your aorta (the large blood vessel that carries blood from your heart) deployed in a minimally invasive procedure. It has four branches (like little arms) that extend to different parts of your aorta that provide blood flow to the intestines and kidneys. These branches help reinforce weak spots and prevent dangerous bulges in the aorta.

How does the TAMBE stent work? Think of the TAMBE stent like a soft, expandable patch or inner lining that is inserted through a catheter and then deployed with a balloon to re-line the aorta. When inflated, it acts like a protective shield, sealing off any weak areas in your aorta.

According to Dr. Feezor, "the TAMBE stent and procedure provides a new way to stent multiple areas of the aorta which was not able to be done with one stent in the past. Bringing this technology to Volusia County and our practice is a differentiator and fits our standard and leadership in vascular system care."

By implementing the TAMBE stent technology, Dr. Yacoub, Feezor, and Cadavid aim to significantly enhance patient outcomes. Patients can anticipate shorter recovery times, reduced complications, and overall improved vascular health. The exclusive use of the TAMBE stent underscores Halifax Health's commitment to patient well-being and medical innovation.
