At Halifax Health, we recognize the importance of creating a safe space for our community to acknowledge, process and grieve after the death of a loved one. Our bereavement department encompasses Hospice Bereavement, Children’s BeginAgain and Traumatic Loss programs. Our counselors are licensed and/or Master’s level-trained clinicians specializing in grief counseling.
Grief counseling is supportive counseling specialized to alleviate emotional distress and provide you with the skills to cope. Counseling sessions are by appointment only and based on counselor availability. Read on for more information about each of our counseling programs.

Each person’s grief experience is different and each is natural and normal following a death. Grief symptoms can present in a multitude of ways and affect different areas of life. Here are just a few of the many ways bereavement counseling or a bereavement group may be helpful:
- Compassionate listeners and support systems
- Receive information about grief and mourning that will help normalize your experience
- Learn coping and calming strategies
- You will have someone help facilitate the process of mourning (adapting to the changes caused by the loss)
