Halifax Health – Cancer Center for Hope Welcomes Caren Wilkie, MD to Expand Breast Surgical Oncology Services

Halifax Health is pleased to welcome Caren Wilkie, MD, a board‑certified general surgeon and fellowship‑trained breast surgical oncologist with a focus on benign and malignant breast disease and high-risk breast conditions.

Dr. Wilkie brings decades of surgical experience, academic accomplishment, and military service to Halifax Health. She earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine after graduating summa cum laude from Emory University, where she completed dual degrees in English and Biology. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Florida Shands Teaching Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident, and later pursued advanced fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center.

Board certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Wilkie has dedicated much of her career to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast disease, including breast cancer. Her clinical interests include breast-conserving surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and multidisciplinary management of breast cancer. She is certified in breast ultrasound and has presented and published research nationally on developments in breast surgery and oncology.

In addition to her civilian medical career, Dr. Wilkie served with distinction in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, achieving the rank of Major and receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal. She also served as a missionary surgeon in Uganda and held leadership roles including Chief of General Surgery at Gallup Indian Medical Center.

Dr. Wilkie is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She has practiced in the Daytona Beach area for many years, most recently at Florida Health Care Plans, and brings both national expertise and strong local ties to her role at Halifax Health.
